I ordered my gps antenna(LGC-12) the other day and it just came in. So...I went to the back yard and connected my Lowrance and the module to it. Upon power up... it tells me " Gps module not responding". Is this because I have not entered the local time and date to initialize it or is there something wrong here??? I also don't have any memory cards or anything like that. I just wanted to power it up and get my position so I know everything works fine. Any ideas?? I hope my LCX-15 connection isn't bad? :(

Re: My LCX-15 Lowrance is not recog. my Gps module

ok...last night I downloaded the pin out from Lowrance. I checked pins 3 and 1 from the GPS out. I got about 9.6 vdc. IT's supposed to be 12volts switched. So...I turned the unit off and the voltage was gone. I turned the unit back on and the voltage turned on. What are the chances I got a bad GPS from factory?? Or my best bet would be to try to get my unit(gps) connected to anther lowrance to verify that it is working or bad and it's not the Lowrance itself??

I have a LCX15 MT w/GPS. You definitely need 12V at the head unit according to Lowrance, re-check voltage and connections. You don't need to enter any info or have a MMC/SD card in the slot. Once your unit acquires satellite lock it will set the time. If you're using the extension cable, try without it, direct between head unit and receiver. Make sure the 4 data wires that are combined into your power lead aren't touching anything/each other. Should be individually taped or insulated. You could try a hard re-set of your unit. This should return your head unit to the way it was upon leaving the factory. Afterwords you'll have to reset your user preferences. With everything connected, hold your zoom out and zoom in buttons in while powering up the unit. Continue holding all three buttons in until the US map appears, then release. Depending upon age, it might help to update your unit's software. Ver# 3.60 is available. You'll need a memory card & reader to do so. Mine is around 2 years old and I have kept it current, every update has been an enhancement/worthwhile. If after powering up you don't get the error on screen be patient, it will take awhile initially. Make sure the receiver has a clear, unobstructed shot at the sky. Let me know how it goes, email if you like. As you can see from my post, I've "been there, done that". Hope this helps.<br />JD

You must have 12v to the unit. The Gps is the first thing not to work if you don't have at least 12v. I know I'm on my third one. And make sure you mount it securely where it cannot get banged up. I ended up taking my Gps antena back to the peeople I bought it from a couple of years earlier they tested it and found it was bad. I put the new one on and it works fine now. If you have 12v I would think the module is bad. :(

Thank you for the replies DUDES!! JD looks like you were on the right trail. AFter reading the manuals and going through the website and the unit. I see that my Lowrance is still at firmware rev 1.5 :( The guy who had it before me never updated cause he never had a gps unit. <br />"You'll need a memory card & reader to do so. Mine is around 2 years old and I have kept it current, every update has been an enhancement/worthwhile."<br /><br />I checked out Ebay and hooked myself up with a 16meg mmc card and reader/writer for 20 bucks. Both brand new. As soon as they come in....I'm upgrading the firmware. <br />Thanks again for you your help.<br />Cheers!!! <br />J....
