my toe hurts

I tried to drop the lower unit on a 1983- 70hp jonson and had to kind of beat it as it was stuck. To make a long story short I got it loose but it fell on my toe that sure hurt. I have a lower unit form a 1975-70hp that I was wanting to put on there as it looks better, however the splines seem different on the shaft. Anyone know if these will interchange?

With what, your sore toe or the motor?

Pretty hard to give advice when we don't know the year of the replacement gearbox. That said, if the drive shaft splines are different, you have at least one problem to solve.

I said 75 but that was my mistake, I should of said 1975. The toe pain made me not think straight Anyway I revised it.

if the splines are different, I can not imagine that it would work. also check shaft lengths..i would put my old one back on if it works fine..you could always paint it.
