I had the oppertunity to care for a farm this week that belonged to a fellow that works with my wife. It was very enjoyable as the list of critters included,

5 Adult Tigers and one 2month old
3 adult Lemurs and two younguns
2 Camels
2 Gallopagos Tortises
1 Kangaroo
2 Cranes not sure what kind but they were beutiful
1 Lamma
3 Rheas (like emus)
1 7foot Boa
10 Buffalo
And several other birds turtles rabbits and other odd critters.

Took the kids and stayed up at his lake home and cared for the critters. I enjoyed it imensley as it was truly an expierence to care for such neat animals. It should be something that gives the kids lifelong memories, but they are to young to realize how neat it really was-Yet.

Feeding the tigers and playing with the Lemurs and baby Tiger had to be the Highlight's for me. Nothing like getting to live at the zoo for a week!

Re: My Week

there is a youngish oil man down in texas who has a zoo to rival Jacksons, and just for kicks he commissioned a dual TURBINE ENGINE powered Sportfish that is 120 feet long (!!!!!!!!) but scaled to look like a Buddy Rich 70 footer ... he loves it, its supposed to have a top end around 70 MPH - cant imagine what it burns an hour, but the man has oil coming out of his ears!

Must be nice!

I heard those camels can be nasty. Bite off your head and "telltale" down your throat.

I've always wondered what tiger steak tastes like!
or
camel liver for that matter

Seriously though that sounds fantastic and the wee green envy is surfacing in me. I wouldn't mind doing that one day with my childrens children.
Ross

Ralph Spencer, No He is a physician that raises them for fun and has donated hundreds of animals to zoo's and sold a few along the way.

Roscoe, Only if they dont like you these were very friendly.

Gonfishn, The turtles snakes and lemurs are afforded heat the rest are all able to take winter here. Turns out most anything that can handele hot can also handle cold due to the insulating properties of the furr to protect them from the extremes.

Re: My Week

What a week. I would love to have such an opportunity. Here in Florida it is illegal to have certain exotic pets, you know, the ones that supercede you on the food chain. I have big dogs and would like to have a couple of big cats. Did anyone see the tv show about the guy raises the grizzly bears and trains them for use in movies? He has a charity called Vital Ground that allows him to buy property that lies within the natural habitat for grizzly bears. Seems like a worthy cause to me.
