Do you think the grounding them important for the elec. output readings or just to keep it from starting?

Don't know if it will change the readings, just protect against sparks around gas fumes, or something else, just reading info. As for the grounds, this is what I'm use to seeing bolted to the block to connect plug wires to when not attached to plugs

Yeah sadly nothing like that I can see on this one. I think I can just get a piece of romex up in the boot along side the connector and tie them to a ground bolt. quite a bit of work for this reading. Any ideas how to track down which coil I need to check for correct voltage to make sure the ECM is getting the right amount as well? I suppose I can just check them all.

well I checked all of the coil leads tonight... Set multimeter to 600v dc and when turning over it flicker to 1200 / "OL" (which I assume is over limit?). the manual says they should be 90-145, but that's using the "DVA" adaptor, whatever that is... I thought I read the you don't need the DVA if your multi meter has a 400 or 600 DC setting, but now that I see it called "Scale Reading" I'm not so sure.

just did some reading... I think he DVA is needed. from what I read it pretty much converts the "pulse" type of charges to these leads to a stable DC voltage to read. So I guess now I either need to buy or make one of these... golly I love boating.

well these "DVA"s are not much fun to try and find locally.... Tried auto parts places, marina's, box stores... Looks like it going to be order it and wait.

I have a 95 XR-1 that was beeping intermittently and was driving me crazy as I had plenty of oil, fuel, no overheating. Turns out that I had water in my fuel and the beeping was the sensor on the bottom of the fuel/water separator. I took the filter off, dumped everything out, and the beeping stopped. I then removed all the old ethanol fuel from tank, put a new separator on, and haven't heard the alarm since. Check your separator. You might have a wire attached to a fitting on the bottom of it. Hope this helps.
