Well, it sorta sounds like a voltage regulator but I'm looking at the '79 OME schematic and it doesn't show one. My '76 has a voltage regulator and its got a black ground wire and a yellow wire that goes to the terminat strip and then to the rectifier. Are you sure it's a '79?

c/6
Hooty

yes the tag says has a 949A I was told that the 4 was for 1970's and the last number was the year.
yes I think it is a regulator but my evinrude 79 shop manual does't show a regulator do I need it?
I am having trouble with my motor and not sure if this is because of this. it is running rough
it runs fine when I first start out for the first few minutes then it bogs in and out then just runs rough until i put it in neutral then I can run it again for 30 sec or so and it bogs out again, I have tried pumping the primer bulb and no change I have pushed the choke in and it wants to die so it is gettng the gas
I pulled a plug when it was boged out and it seems that the no. 1 cyl is not working right I see spark but it does not seem to affect the engine when pulled off when it is in its bog mode. I am think it is a power pack but any suggestions

trace the wires from your terminal block you might find the purple has alot to do with your solenoid thats for starting and switching so your battery will charge , check your battery condition now bet it's quite weak just like hooty said yellow usally goes to the rectifer
