Name That Part...

Anyone know what this metal bar is all about? As far as I can tell, there is nothing attatched to it. There hasn't been anything attached to it for as long as we've had this boat. The metal is worn a little, like it has been used for something, once. I'm just going to yank it out and fill in the holes. BUT I wanted to check first, to make sure that piece isn't the one piece that holds the whole boat together :D

To be clear, I'm referring to the metal bar that is horizontal in the picture. It has two hexagonal screw/bolts holding it to the little sub floor area that leads to be bilge.

Interesting. Possibly part of the mounting system for a long-gone ski pylon?

Its actually completely covered up by the back of the boat. Plus, there are no unexplained holes where the rest of it would mount. I dunno, very odd.

Hmmm - someone's previous attempt to keep the gas tanks from sliding around? (Unless you have a permanent one mounted further forward...?)

Re: Name That Part...

My tank has always lived to the right of this hole. I wish I knew what the rest of this mount looked like, if that's what it was. I want to upgrade to a 10 or 12 gallon tank, and I need to secure it, and build some kind of support as a bigger tank will overhang this pit. But that's another thread... As for this piece of metal... it's going bye bye.

Re: Name That Part...

It holds the boat down onto the water!!! Remove it and the boat could fly away similar to releasing a kids helium balloon on a string!! :D

Beyond that guess...... I have no idea. If it is not hurting anything, not leaking and out of sight........ ignore it and go boating!!

That is the oil tank hold down bracket for a OMC VRO oil tank. Take it out.

Leave it alone. Nothing good can come from tinkering with it.
