Name that "thingie"

The thingie that I need a name for is made from nylon and mounts on one tube of a stainless steel folding boat transom ladder and clips on to the upper tube of the ladder when the ladder is folded. The tube OD is 1 inch so it's possibly 7/8 tubing. Because I don't know the proper name, I'm at a loss to do a thorough search. I looked at the ladders in the parts and accessories section but came up empty. If you know where to get one, I would be very gratefull.

Thanks,
Nick

A picture is worth a thousand words. While the part you are trying to find may not show in the picture, "where" it is located might give us a clue. I suspect you are looking for what's called a "hole plug". Most hardware stores have a selection of these in the area where you see an entire wall of drawers containing every "thingy" you can imagine. While you are there, spend some time walking around and peering into all these drawers. Next time you need something you will have an idea were to go and where to look. I encourage people to go to home improvement stores and simply look at all those odd bits and pieces that you have no idea what purpose they serve. Someday one of those thingys will be needed and you will suddenly remember exactly where to find one.

Mine is a small strap with a snap.Holds it in place so it does not deploy while under way.

Yeah? Mine was a telescoping ladder that was stored under a hatch.

His is a folding ladder that uses a plastic clip that keeps it from deploying.

otec has a good analogy also. Like the clips on an umbrella stroller. But if you don't have small kids you might not know what that is either! :)

Overton's has two different "pontoon square ladder clip set" listed and photographed in their ladder section. But none for round tube. Sorry

I installed a swim ladder on my teak swim platform this summer, oh the joy of drilling stainless.

I had no obvious way of keeping the ladder up, so I just use 2 of these through the swim platform.

The Beckson clip from Iboats that was suggested by mattb1974 most closely resembles what I was after. I would have called it a whatchamacallit as suggested by HappierWet if I could spell it.

Seriously, I would like to thank all of you.
I came to the right people.

Thanks and happy boating
Nick

A short strip of nylon strap, with velcro sewn to it, will work.
This sort of thingie comes in handy for all sorts of camping, boating, hunting, sporting activities.

Kind of like the ball bungies I use, they are versatile for sure.
