Re: NEAR NEW 8HP YAMAHA high thrust

Is it supposed to have power tilt 'n' trim? Pretty rare on 8HP outboards.

batteries are fully charged, clean terminals and the motor spins. no power to tilt motor. I was wondering if there was some trick to getting it going. must me a loose or broken connection somewhere

If you have a volt meter or test light, check for 12 volts on the red wire going to the switch. No voltage indicates a blown 10 amp fuse or loose/corroded connection in the control wiring. You can test the tilt motor by connecting the leads to a battery. Blue to positive and green to negative should tilt the motor up.

If you mean lower unit gear oil, it is located on the lower unit, starboard side (looking towards the fron of boat) there will be two screws, one down near the end of the LU, the other just above it. unscrew the lower screw first, have your container ready to catch the oil, it will run freely when you remove the top screw; fill from the bottom screw until oil runds out of the top screw; make sure you use a new gasket for both screws.

If you are talking about motor oil, it is on the port side below the lower cowling and takes a 12mm socket. My Yamaha T8 has a spare 10 amp fuse stored right next to the in service one.
