My Buddy just picked up a 1977 Glastron SSV 189. The boat is in excellent condition and has been upgraded with
a 5.7 ltr mercruiser. My question is about the cockpit configuration. The boat has two sport swivel seats and a bench
across the back of the motor well, it also has a tanning bed on the back of the boat.
All the SSv 189s I have looked up have back to back seats in the cockpit and have a seat beside the motor well at the back.
Has anyone ever seen configurations such as the one we have. I am wondering if our boat has been modified.

Just bought my Glastron yesterday!!! Ive been doing a lot of looking and your setup definitely looks stock.Ive seen it coming up alot. The swivel chairs and tanning bed look real nice.I have the other style. In looking I think all the ones with your style came with a v8.Maybe the engine compartment needs to be bigger and theres no room for side seats....But thats just a guess. I have the v6

Even if has been modified, so what? One of the problems with I/O's is transom weight. Put the engine and drive unit right at the transom, then put a couple of jump seats adjacent to the engine cover and with occupants.....and there are always occupants if you have more than 2 aboard, you have a couple thousand #'s that you have to get up and onto the water.

Moving the bench in front of the engine hood and making a cover that one can use when at rest for a tanning "salon" seems like a step in the right direction to me. Also the ones that I have seen, lift up giving you full access to engine and other necessary things at the stern.

Fine with me.

Glastron website shows 2012 models only but they list your seating (SL) as an optional seat package, making me think is more expensive...So enjoy

I like mine as is. Glastron had several models based on the same hulls--differnt layouts.
