Hi Everyone,

I need a larger fuel tank that will fit in the bow area of my 1967 Larson all-american.I want to try and get at least a +30 gallon tank in there to take up the room i have available in the bow area.Currently i have a little 15 gallon.

Any recommendations on a bow tank that would be like 30 gal?

if it's the boat in the picture, consider the weight, both underway and on the trailer. Might be better to have a couple of small ones in different places.

The best place is as low and close to center as possible--can you get a belly tank under the floor?

Putting an extra 150-200lb. in the bow could really mess up the hole shot and balance of that boat. I agree with HC. Put it near the center.

Re: Need a larger Fuel tank

Thanks for the recommendations, currently my bow is riding too high in the air.I have no problem at all getting it on plane and the bow actually rides extremely high.I have tried to trim it up or down but cannot get the bow down which makes it a little scary when approaching 45 mph.

I believe its because its slightly overpowered with the 110 hp Evinrude on it. I could fit a large belly tank underneath the deck but i would have to cut an opening which i really do not want to do.The other consideration is space, currently the only storage i have is underneath the back to back seats.I have my battery and oil tank near the bilge.

Put 200 lbs in front and see how it performs. 6 lbs. per gallon plus tank etc.
What bubba said about weight shift.????

Okay i hear ya... :) I could see hitting a little chop and swamping the boat with that much weight Anyone have any suggestions on how to get more permanent fuel capacity without opening up the deck? I thought about saddle tanks however my boat just isn't big enough or does not have enough space to utilize them. The little 15 gal tank is fine for the lake but not when i fish near shore.I really need like a 30-40 gallon tank. Getting a new boat is not an option.

Re: Need a larger Fuel tank

Recently I had a custom aluminum 33 gallon tank made to replace the original rotten one in my boat. Cost me $445, and that was with cold tar epoxy on it too... i thought it was a fair price, i got an estimate of about $550 from another shop. Not sure if you were considering having a custom tank made, but at least this lets you know the ballpark that it costs.

not being able to get the bow down is strange with good power like that. I wonder if the hull has a hook to it or something. Im sure some trim tabs of some sort could help tremendously if set up right.

Well when looking at the bottom of the boat and using a straight edge the hull is perfect so i am not sure why the bow rides so high on plane.Would my motor height have anything to do with it? Anyhow i think i might go with a custom gas tank

Howdy,

Back in 2003 or 2004 I needed to replace the 18 gallon steel rectangular bow tank in my 1966 Mark Twain 18 ft 150hp Stern drive boat.

I purchased an aluminum tank "off the shelf" from West marine ordered from their catalog. It was a 26 gallon tank. It *just* fit in the original spot with minimal modifications.

After I installed it, I couldn't tell any difference in performance or trim requirements .............going from 18-26 gallons is only a 8 gallon difference [about 50lbs]. 15 gallons is approx 100lbs. While that might require a trim/engine adjustment it probably won't be much.

Just make sure you install it properly and use marine grade fuel lines etc.

Hey HT32BSX115- Did you change the original tank location? Originally the 15 gallon tank was underneath the splashwell but still sitting topside on the deck which added even more weight to the stern. So i relocated it to the bow area, and its currently sitting topside on the deck underneath the bow.My second option would be to cut up my new deck i laid about 8 months ago and try and fit a belly tank. With the gas tank currently in the bow area i lose all that space underneath the bow.

It fit in the same place up under the bow as the smaller tank.

I did investigate having a custom v-shaped tank made which would have increased the available capacity but the fabrication cost was too high.

It did reduce space under the bow but not all that much since the tank was there originally.

I cut an All American up a couple years ago, bought it for the motor & trailer. As I recall there was an 18 gal tank up under the bow.

Never ran the boat the transom was ripped out when I got the boat.
