Looks like the wood block that is glassed to the hull is wet... I first found this replacing the bilge pump and saw a crack and when i pushed down on it water came out. SO... I took my dremel and started cutting at it more and more to what you see now... Should I just do a patch job for now and just tear is apart next winter? The glass under the block is all solid... so i guess i could just throw some epoxy resin on it and seal it up again... any help would be nice. Thanks.

You could probably wait till the end of the season to fix it. It would be better if you removed the block for now though.

What to patch with? PC11 , 5200 ??

What to patch with? PC11 , 5200 ??

I have decided to patch up the wood/glassed block that sits at the bottom of the bilge that the bilge pump screws into, but I am a little confused on what product to use for the patch job. I have used PC11/MarineTex many times and very impressed with it, but also the same with 5200. What would be best for this situation? the area is still a little damp and will be probably damp for some time. But the pc11/Marinetex or 5200 needs to cure with the moisture, which I think they both can do. What route should I go here.

I'd suggest you take YD's advice over in the other thread you asked this question in, and at a minimum remove the block.

It's impossible to tell how or why that black got wet, but if it's below the glass in the bilge, it should be replaced. I don't think the cure in moisture feature of either MarineTex (never heard cure in moisture feature of it, but it might) or the 5200 is intended to stabilize damp wood.

No thoughts or questions about how or why there's a wet piece of wood in you bilg

Re: Need a little direction with bilge block...

I am guessing the water found its way to the wood through unsealed screws that were used to mount the bilge pump. At least this was how it happened in my case. In my boat, this piece of wood provides no structural support to the hull whatsoever and its purpose in life was to provide a material the screws can bite into. If you want to seal it and worry about it another season, I would say thickened poly resin (PB) will be more than enough.

Ill just patch it up for now with some PC11, I read on the site for the pc11 that it seals and bonds to wet/underwater surfaces... so in this case it would work just fine. Thanks for the respones.

Just remember that, when you seal up wet wood, it will continue to rot, so don't forget to tear it out and do a proper repair at the end of the season.;)
