I have a 1985 , 3.0 with a 400 stringer drive trying to chase down why i do not have more than 23 mph at 3800 rpm. This is what i found my dis. Cap is very worn and it need plugs. First question is what is the plug gap i know the pints are 18.000. Also i do not think the shift interupter s set rigth. It shifts fine but if i ease into it the interrupter misses untill i can play with it untill i reach a higher rm past the interupter. Any help would be great. I should also tell you the prop is a 13 1/4 x 17

Ayuh,... I believe, AC Delco, MR43T plugs fit that head, 'n idle should be 650/ 700 rpms in the water, in gear...

Thanks for the replays. Now that I replaced the points and set them at 18.000 and replace the plug and are gaped at 35.000 I am having a hard time starting . It cranks and cranks and I have to move or pump the throuttle to get it to fire and it seems to be worse when warm. I did not have this issue before the tun-up I could just it the key and would fire right off. Any thoughts, I am figuring it is something I did but all is set right, so I am not sure what to do next.
