I have recently bought a stereo and ordered it from amazon. Iam in New York and its been very cold. I can't install it for a few weeks, and I want to hook the stereo up to make sure it works. What's the easiest way to make sure it works? Is there anything I could use to hook up the wires with something to the end of the wires temporally to battery just to see if it works?

If you have your battery out of your boat, you can use that for power. Or connect into your car. You will need at least two speakers too. The installation instructions should help show the way.

If you are not comfortable with the hook-up, testing and making a mistake may be more risky than waiting.

I used a spare auto battery to test mine in the basement. Use some wire scraps to connect the speakers and the battery. I used hose clamps to attach the power wires to the battery. Use wire nuts or wrap the splice in your wires so they don't short out.

I saw your subject line and was going to refer you to Craigslist personals :) OK, wrong topic. As noted above, temporary hookup to battery. Go to Radio Shack/Fry's/maybe Pep Boys and get a couple of large alligator clips (the size used on battery chargers). Strip back your power supply wires and use the clips to hold the wires against the battery terminals. IMPORTANT: make sure you get the "+" and "-" correct.

black tape it all together. No need to buy any fancy clips.
