Hello all,

Well, I decided I'm gunna go buy a manual and throw a new water pump kit and thermostat in (its only been over 10 years according to the guy I just bought it from).

So, I'm hoping someone can help me identify which water pump kit I need and thermostat. I'm looking to buy online so any pointers for the best prices will be appreciated.

Also, since I need to drop the lower unit am I gunna need a new lower unit gasket/seal too or are they sealed with just silicone?

1977 70 HP Evinrude.

Thanks!

Brad, there is not seal between the lower unit and midsection, never use silicon on a boat, just won't hold up. you can see complete engine diagrams and parts list at this following link, as far as parts goes clik the evinrude parts at the top left of this page. the prices are as competative as anywhere else, delivery great. you can get OEM product from the local dealer.

Excellent; so then what do you do about the lower unit? No seal? Just bolt her on?

Thanks

If you go to drop it and it won't come down make sure you have disconnected the shift linkage rod. On my 90 is just under the front of the eng. If you move the shift lever back and forth look for how it links up just before it goes into the lower unit.

The water pump kit is part number 18-3388 or for just the impeller it is 18-3082, both right here at iboats
