Yes, I did check the gas cap. Took it off while I was sitting there waiting. Did not hear any pressure release when the cap came off. I put on new plugs, wires, etc. I checked the gaps twice. (since I took them out to check compression after the fact). No, I didn't notice much difference after the adjustments.

I had a 1978, inline 6, 250 cu in in a Glaspar. Had similar issues as when running for a while the motor would cut out and stop. After a cooling off period, it would run a while and stop again. The ignition coil was getting very hot. I replaced the ignition coil and the problem went away.

With it running fine for 45 minutes than slow down and it dies than have to wait 20 or 30 minutes and it starts again sounds like it flooding. What did the plugs look like? Did you happen to feel the coil? I have not heard of the coil overheating like that but it happened to Hoot. Has it only sputtered and died when you slow down? Does it ever do it at cruise speed?

Thanks again for the advice. I did come to the conclusion about the coil and changed it out. We cruised around last weekend and everything seemed fine. Then when coming back to trailer the boat, literally within 3 feet of the trailer the motor died and struggled to restart. Had to get wet and manually load the boat. Not fun in cold canadian waters.
Discovered that the thermostat was now hanging open, so changed it. Waiting to go out and test again.
