Re: Need advice on my 15 year old step son

I never would have thought that this would go this far and I thank every one for the advice. the wife and i are working on a new plan and will try our best to stick with it and plug along. I just try to remember that in just 2 short years he will be 18 and can find out on his own that life can and is hard and if you dont take responsabilty then you will find your self living in a box under a bridge cold and hungry. that is never what a parent wants for his kids but some times that is how it will end up. I will continue to try to instill right from wrong in him and hope for the best.
Once again thanks every one for the help this place is priceless.

LJ,

As others have said, you have to get BOTH ladies on your side in this. The MIL is probably being over protective due to the situation. She has to realize that: a) you need the help; b) it is in the boy's best long term interest that he learns to be responsible; c) She isn't helping him or you by undermining your authority

A nice guided tour of your workplace would be another option. That should be a real eye opener :D
