Re: NEED DRIVESHAFT!!
If your seal area under the water pump is eaten away on the driveshaft, there is a way to repair it without dissasembly.

If it's not too rotted away, use what is called a "speedi-sleeve" or "redi-sleeve" to repair. Essentially a band of stainless steel which is pressed down the shaft and sits over the damaged area, to provide a smooth surface for the seal.

You'll need a set of vernier calipers to be able to get down in there and measure the diameter(s) of the shaft, where the seals ride on it. Go to your local auto parts store (the one where they actually know something about cars!) and they can look up the correctly-sized sleeve(s) for the diameter you've measured.

Just follow the directions on how to install the sleeve(s) and away you go. New seals, gasket and O-ring for the pump body and you're good as new!

I would recommend also using a thin layer of Loctite Red to help seal and lock the sleeve to the shaft. If the shaft is really buggered up, you could as a last ditch effort use a bit of JB Weld or Marine Tex as a filler to stabilize the sleeve.

Have done this to a number of motors with good success. Certainly beats spending $500 or more on an old motor! The sleeves run around $20 each.

HTH and Good Luck...........ed
