Need expert help with OMC part number

I recently bought a pontoon with a 1977 Evinrude 35 hp on it. Motor is in good looking condition, prop is in very good condition, but I haven't attempted to check compression yet since the internal wiring harness has several broken wires. I'm waiting for the harness to ship, and I decided to go all in on the motor, since it was a very good deal, and by appearances, the motor is probably worth fixing.
My issue is the original part # listed for the complete water pump kit is 0388256, that part is hard to find, and where I have found it, the price is outrageous. That part # appears to have been replaced by 0389980, but when I search for that number, I find that it is listed as not fitting a '77 Evinrude 35 hp. I also found that number has possibly been replaced with a newer number, now 0395270.
Is there anyone here that can tell me if one of these newer part number water pump kits will fit a 1977 35 hp Evinrude? It's an old motor and I can't justify spending $160 on a water pump kit, when the new part numbers are $39 for a similar kit. If I have to, I'll just buy the impeller, but I'd prefer to replace the entire water pump assembly.
Thank you for any help.

Inspect all the parts.-----Usually a new impeller is all that is needed.----Use a factory impeller.

I agree with racerone. Inspect it and only replace what's needed. I don't see a super-session to 395720.

The original aluminum pump kit has been superseded by 389980 with plastic housing and stainless steel liner. Some drilling and tapping is required. Also, if it has already been updated, I think it now takes a different impeller, so look before ordering.
395270 is for models with wedge-type impeller key.

Thanks for the replies, I'll take it apart and determine if it has been updated and if replacing the impeller will be sufficient.
