I had it running at the house and it ran good. also when it almost died an alarm went off. when i got to the dock it stalled. it started right back up.but the alarm did not go away.the motor did not seem to be hot and it was peeing good. i had a hard time keeping it running.
got it home. the 2 upper plugs were black and sticky the 2 bottom ones were a tan but wet.
please help thank you.

well choking to keep running, leads to fuel restricion, did the primer bulb collase. check fuel pump. the plugs being wet may be from having to choke to keep running. check the compression. what type alarm did the the engine make constant beep or beep beep. i have an 88 spl is the vent clear on the gas tank. i had a clogged vent on my built in tank, that cause the bulb to collaspe.

Hello it is a steady beep. i just put in a new ball pump. the ball pump was hard so could it be the fuel pump?? beep sounds like someone laying on their car horn.

thank you

A steady horn is an overheat. Is the engine to hot to the touch?

Re: need help badly

The overheat switch does not sound a constant alarm until the engine is overheated to the point where the engine is in danger of serious damage.

Before you run the engine again you should remove the cylinder head on the side with the overheat and examine the cooling circuit, especially the water passage deflectors. You will need to replace the head gasket and torque the heads properly.

You will also want to examine the thermostats and the thermostat housing.

Water coming out of the "pee hole" does not tell you anything about the proper functioning of the cooling system. It simply tells you that the water pump is pumping water.

Re: need help badly

Need to check Thermostats, Water pump and Water Deflectors if your engine has them.

Go here to get an overview look of your engine.

http://epc.brp.com/default.aspx?brands=ej&lang=e

Take off stat housing and look for obstructions, and check to make sure they are opening correctly. Clean and replace or get a stat kit, they are cheap

Do a water pump overhaul or atleast a impeller change. Video example..

http://www.meegsonline.com/tmd/waterpump.wmv

Lastly if you do have water deflectors, feel which bank is getting hot, then pull head off to inspect passages and deflectors.

http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=199287

Someone having simlar problems, read the example I put in there.

Also for future refernce if the alarm is going off shut her down, dont continue to run and cause possible damage.

Best of luck, pm or post back results and any other questions you have.

BTW, I think you need to rebuild your carburetors, especially the top one.

This picture shows water deflectors' positions on most V4 crossflow engines:

Re: need help badly

Look on the transom brackets for a 1"X3" plate or sticker with two sets of numbers. If you don't find it, look on engine block for a quarter sized convex welch plug, which may also have both numbers. The 88HP series runs from 1987 up.

Re: need help badly

The thermostats are located in the small housing under the powerhead, between the cylinder heads. The hoses from the cylinder heads run to the housing cover. Held on by three bolts. A good box-end 7/16" wrench will get them out. Use rubber bands or zip-ties to hold the works together when reassembling.

Also, GET A MANUAL! You'll need it when re-torquing head bolts...

Re: need help badly

hello. well i got it off and one thermostat was closed and the other one was open. I put both thermostats in water and boiled them and one finally opened all the way and the other only opened halfway. I am going to order two new thermostats and head gaskets, and I will let you know the outcome when I get them installed. Thank you very much for the information.
