Need help desperate !!!!!

I have a 2003 F225, that I have been posting about no water coming out of the water pump indicator pee hole.. I have been told by a few of you guys that
it';s hard to get good water flow with ear muffs and you need to put the motor in a big water bucket. i did that and still no water indicator. Then I have had a few post saying that some of you guys have had the same problem with four strokes , when you put them in the water it was fine.
So I put in a new water pump kit, started it up it ran with no water indicator and after 10 min the high temp alarm went off.
I took of one side thermo ran the motor no water flow up to the block.
I then took the lower unit off conected a water hose to the water tube and water just was gushing out back down through the exhaust housing and just a little was getting up to the block at the thermos.

Help !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Water gushing out is normal.That is how it discharges out through prop while running.Your thermos are up top so water will seek path of least resistance therefore pouring out through the exhust that has no back pressure from being submerged.Are the thermos clean or give ANY indication of sand ,salt corrosion etc.?If not,I doubt you have any blockages.That said,are you positive the pump assy was put together properly?When you ran the engine in the barrell was the water good and high as though it was in the lake or sea?Water pump submerged water abouve the lower unit mating surface.Im just throwing some ideas here.I have had that problem before using muffs.If there was a blockage,I would think it would be at the powerhead where the tube connects,when you did the pump,were all the impeller vanes intact?The motor is fairly new to have corrosion problems at the point where tube stops.

why not simply back it overboard someplace, have you tried the bungee cord on the muff trick?
have you replaced or at least inspected the pressure control valve?
use a bungee cord and tighten the muffs to the case or use the merc type flusher that pins together, this will nessesitate the water intake screens be removed.
also carefully check the tell tale hose for obstructions as it also cools the voltage regulator.

Ok, When i installed the new water pump kit and pulled out the metal drum from the nylon pump housing there was some kind of hard putty like substance stuck to the housing like someone tried to glue the metal housing in ?
Then today after pulling pump apart countless times. I was thinking that may be that built up uneven putty like crap was not letting the metal housing from seating up against the O ring seal at the top of the pump housing thus causing
the pump to loose preasure ? Plus by brother noticed that the pump housing was warped and maybe not sealing the large o ring at the bottom?

Please tell me what the "preasure relief valve does? I and taking it out the other day and ordered a new one that will be here tomorrow.

I was thinking it was like a PVC valve on a car?

and yes, the lower unit is completely submerged in the water tank

the pressure control valve simply controls block water pressure from idle to WOT, however if its stuck open or leaking it will tend to dump to much water at idle and not allow the block to fill.
its located under the powerhead and can be accesed by removing the small square panal on the aft lower cowl trim.
you will need a 10mm and an 1 7/16th wrench.
I think the parts manual actually calls it a cover.
does the pump housing show any sign of melt? when your installing the insert cup into the housing pay attention to the locating tab, mke sure when your installing the housing cup assy you turn the driveshaft clockwise while pusing down on the housing.
if your running it in a bucket you will need at least 2 inches of water above the gearcase parting line to submerge the pump.

I had the preasure valve off the other day. I really hope that is it..

I am going to get new punp cover and the valve is on it's way..

So the lower unit has to have 2 inches of water above the gearcase parting line and
not just cover the intake screens? why is that doesn't the water get picked up at the screens?

cause as a self priming pump it suxs.
your making this rather hard on yourself
relax and take one step at a time.
we do have issues with using the muffs on that engine though, Yamaha doesnt really reccomend running it on the onboard flusher but for short periods we do with no damage, just let the hose run a few minutes before starting the engine to fill the block and wet the pump.

don't want to hijack this or anything, but I have made my own "super flusher" simply by getting two flushers and removing the plain one from one set and fitting the hose connector one from the second set, so in effect you have two hose attachmnets on one set of flushers, I then made up a simple T connector out of clip together fittings, so you have two hose pressures (sort of) on one set of flushers, now I am sure a lot of people have done this, and I don't claim to be the inventor of it, but it certainly works a treat on bigger Engines, you can even hook up two hoses from differenet taps if you are really worried about it!

Some one on this forum recomended a dual feed muff. I did see that that sell them, it's a called a pro flush or something but it has a "Y" and it feeds both sides of the water intake, would be some thing to get a hold of and try..

sort of guessed that they would be available, but I made mine about 3 years ago, and the strap to push them tight is also advisable, I made up a sort of quick clamp thing for mine, only because I was sick of forever looking for the bungy cord.

Hallelujah !!!!!!!

finally got water to come out the indicator hole....It did not come out with much force but it was steady stream..
Went down at talked with my local Yamaha dealer and they said that they never run the four strokes out off the water..


New water pump housing

Dual feed earmuffs with bungees / w intake srceens off...

I am going tio change the Preasure Valve just for the hell of it.,.
