need help identifying Volvo Penta outdrive

Would like help with identifying the following Volvo Penta drive.



I was given the following information on engine, transom and stern drive:

Engine: 2003 8.1 GXI-A, 3869123, serial no. 4012079357
Transom: serial no. 4151020830
Drive serial nr. 420206764?

Looking to identify the drive, however I believe that the drive s/n is one number short, should be 10 digits?

You are correct, it is one number short. There is a metal tag on the drive, port side, kind of hidden by the trim cylinder. It will give you the serial number along with the model number and gear ratio.

It's not a DPS-A drive, they didn't come out till '06.

Not right off, just go look, the trim cylinder isn't that big, and the tag is only partially covered. Front section of the port side.

OK, thank you ... the boat is 1,500 miles away and I have to rely on the selling dealer to do this for me ... I found out in the mean time that the entire outdrive has been repainted (paint is flaking off and I asked why) and ss props have been replaced. Dealer can't find the s/n tag ... because it's been covered with paint ...

If I can find out what the s/n is, then the manufacturer can tell me if it is the original drive .... if not, I'll have to find out why it was repainted and the dealer isn't saying ...

yeah i misread the drive number... when i did a search under your engines serial number in volvopenta.com database i get this Product Bulliten... (by the way ofishal your link that you posted is for a Gi/GSi ... his engine is a GXi-A according to the serial... though they have the same outdrive
but here is the link... and according to this product bulliten the matching outdrive should be dp-s not a DPS-a drive like i said previous. thanks don for the correction.

from what it looks like to me with the limited picture you gave... that your drive is the same as the one in this product bulliten. hope that helps in some way...
