Re: Need Help New Motor Purchase AND THE WINNER IS

Well you guys and ladies are too darn smart for your own good. Not too smart for the board’s own good cause we need people like you!!!

Over the years I’ve learned a lot about boats, boating, safety, fishing and motors. With as much humility as possible, I would say I’m better than average. My weak spot would be major repairs on motors, no problem with maintenance and newer motors I’ve got plenty to learn. But I’m still teachable and I would say to a know-it-all you’re a fool and you are missing the boat. (No pun intended) Technology is always changing and if you can’t ask a question than button up to learn something I feel sorry for you!

Times they are a changin’ and I must too. Cars and trucks aren’t easy to work on anymore unless you do it for a living and have the proper equipment. He 11 many Harleys went to twin cam and EFI. And even the big 2 strokes now have EFI and other high tech components, they aint the Sears 2 strokes from the 70’s.

So when it came time to buy a new boat and motor I wanted the best for me! Not the fastest, not the biggest just the best I could do for me and my preferences. I was pretty much set on what I wanted and when I saw the Tundra with it’s wind tunnel and water tested 1/8” thick-formed hull I wanted it. All the best of glass and aluminum put together.

I’m sitting in this boat at a show and this boat drew a sizeable crowd. There’s this older gentleman looking over the boat hard, tapping on the hull he looks at me and says “this boats fiberglass” I interrupted and said “no it’s all aluminum, no wood or glass anywhere” he continues as he’s tapping on the hull “since when did Tracker make a fiberglass boat” I told him again and he’s walking down the side of the boat sliding his hand on the hull the whole way “Naw this boats fiberglass” See what I mean about being teachable!

Well I got the boat I wanted, It’s a beautiful boat and I’ll be proud to be her Captain and fish the heck out of it. The internet may not be the place to say this cause there’s a whole world of toes to step on so I’ll say “In my opinion” this boat is arguably one of the best looking aluminum boats ever made, if you haven’t seen it in person you should pictures don’t do it justice. Run your hand down the hull!

So now I got to put something on her to move her, so the search and education begins, I asked you all here, I asked friends and mechanics I know and I read and read a lot. I not only asked your opinions but I turned it around and wanted you to back it up with something. Us guys don’t like to lose and I figure if you bet, backed by your opinion I would have an extra measure of assurance and might add a little fun to it too. A lot of you guys on this board know a lot. A whole world of knowledge I don’t posses especially about 4 strokes, which I’m a learnin. The vast majority advised to get the 115/4 EFI. Now I don’t need to go fast but would this be fast enough?

Well with all the information and advice I got I went with the 115/4 EFI, so the winner is, the envelope please, darn near all of you. Check it out either in your advice or your bet just about all of you somewhere in your comments thought the 115/4 EFI was the right motor. What sealed it for me was when I went to the dealer he handed me two new brochures he just got today, they were reprints from magazines that tested the boat and one had the boat around 50 MPH (46 to 51) and the other just slightly over 50MPH (49 to 53) both at just over half max load (+ or -).

They went on to explain why: much lighter than glass, hull design and so on. In addition hole shots were much better cruising speed of 20 to 25 MPH increased MPG by 32 %, with a 40 gal tank that will take me pretty far. Quiet, no smoke and slow trolling with a big motor, I think I’ll like it very much. Man high tech design boat and motor I’ve just stumbled into the 21st century.

Thanks to all very much, it was very educational and a lot of fun too. I appreciate this board and it’s members very much. What a great resource for all of us.

:) :D ;) :p :) :D ;) :p
