Guys, I have a 88 Wellcraft 220 that needs a ladder on the swim platform. Attached is a pic of an almost identical Wellcraft (pic doesn't have drive tho).

What I want to know is, can I buy a typical folding/telescoping ladder and mount it to this swim platform. If so, what precautions do I need to take to make sure I get no leaks into the hull?

Also would there be a better choice for a ladder?

Anyone else have ladder recommendations?

What about a gunwale ladder? Just not sure how easy it would be to use on my runabout. (see similar pic below). Kind of hate to spend a bunch of money on a ladder if a gunwale ladder will work (pic attached).

i have use gunnel ladders for years, what you have to watch out for is that the hooks are big enough to go over the gunnel. and if the hull has a steep angle the length of the legs. the legs can be extended with pvc pipe. i had a 250lb friend, and everytime he went to get in the boat, we would all go to the ladder side, so the boat listed toward him, so he could get his feet on the ladder, then as he put his weight on the step we all went to the other side to boost him up. it's sad, but still funny.

I have almost the same boat. The factory ladder is a 2-step ladder that mounts on top of the platform on the starboard side. See attached pic.
Unless you really need to save the money, I would go with the 2 step ladder under the platform with the handrails on the transom above. I haven't looked, but I 'think' you can get to the mounting position for the ladder from inside the boat so you can put backing plates & through bolts in. Make sure you seal the bolts with 3M-5200 adhesive/sealant.

Well I went ahead and ordered the gunwale ladder to "try and see". If it works I've saved money, if it doesn't work, I've got an ebay item LOL

The gunwale style is workable for smaller, light wake folk. Not worth a hoot for the heavier types or us older folk in my book. They also take up a lot of space.
