Hi all, I am new to this forum, but I have checked the search section to see if i could slove my problem,no luck. I have an Mercury outboard motor, Serial # 1792488, I do not have the model number or what horse power it is, It is a 2 cylinder, 2 cycle motor. The local guys do not have any way to figure out what i have, I am selling her, but the new owner wants to know what the HP is. One thing I have found that most pictures on the web don't show on the the oldedr engines, is the on the base of the power head, the words " HP " and two large silver STARS, but no #. What do the stars stand for? The only other number I founbd on this thing is on the power head itself, "835-2294". Don't know if this would help but might be a start. Oh one more thing that I checked, the length of the shaft, I beleive it is a short shaft, it measures around 16 inches. If anyone could please help me find out what model and horse power I have. Thanks..
Paul

Re: Need Help Please

thanks DB-205 for the info, but do you have any idea if it is a 6.0 ot 9.8 hp? (model 110 or 60)
But I checked that link you gave me, but the picture they hasve for the 64 to 66, do not match the cover that I have, the looks of the engine look the same but the graphics are very different. Or are those pic in the link very generic to merc ?

Paul

Re: Need Help Please

That serial number should pin it down to 1965.
But it could be a 6hp, 9.8, 10, 20, or 35hp.

You are going to have to give us a little more info, if you can.

What does it look like?
Colors?
Weight of the entire motor?
Diameter of the prop, maybe.
Shape of the hood?
