Hello i am new here and i have a force 85hp its a 1987 on a bayliner. its got a history of overheating and runs crappy. ran a compression test got 120,0,120 the 2nd cylinder the piston started coming apart and the cyl is scored. there is a small crack on the exhaust port i am hoping i can save this engine and maybe get it sleeved?. well anyway i am trying to remove it from the boat and i can lift it about 1/2" but it wont come off. what am i missing? all wiring and linkages are removed. anyone have the procedure for removing this thing?! please help. i tried boat shops but no one even wants to work on it everyone wants to sell me a new boat instead

The transom mounting screw pads are probably getting caught on the aluminum trim. Make sure they are screwed all the way out. While the engine only weighs about 275 pounds, it will go a lot easier if you fabricate an "A" frame from 2x4 and 2x6 and use a come-along.

Sleeving is in most cases NOT an option. The sleeve is expensive and it costs a lot to install it. PLUS the machine shop needs special tools. If it is so bad it needs a sleeve, just find a used block.

I am located in Coleman Wisconsin. The machine shop quoted $60 to fix the cylinder provided it can be fixed. I know the piston is $125. I did find one used engine but it running between 115-110psi is that low for one of these? My two good cylinders pushed 120

got it off. took a chance on that used engine just waiting for the gaskets to get here. while waiting already replaced the bad parts of the floor and the bad stringers. going to re carpet it tonight. replacing the lounge seats with folding seats. i have it figured out where i can store stuff under the rear facing seat and have a nice area to strap life jackets in between the seats. its going to be a sharp looking boat when its done!

Compression???
That motor with a good gauge should read 145-155# .
But different gauges read differently.
I have one $165 in 1988
One from Harbor Freight $20
There will probably be a difference.

What your looking for is all 3 cylinders within a couple of pounds of each other.
Like all 3 about 120 or even 80 but need to be close.

Mine read 145# on all 6 pistons(2 motors)
If there is any more than 3# difference I start looking for a problem.
