Hello, this is my first post. I think I may have Carb troubles??

I recently had the Tracker 175 out on the water today. It has been unused for a few months, but stabilizers were added to gas before storage.

It starts easy, idles fine, runs good at low speeds, but will not reach max speed.

If I quickly push the throttle from idle to wide open, the engine will stall. If I gradually increase the speed form idle, it will top out at 18mph@3200 RPM. This engine should top out at 33mph.

when I had the throttle maxed today traveling at 18mph@3200 RPM, I would push in the key for choke and the engine would come to full speed temporarily. Repeatedly pushing and releasing the electronic choke, allowed me to bring the engine to 33MPH@5000 RPM. As soon as I stopped choking it, the engine would drop back to 3200 RPM, with the throttle maxed, and only run at 18MPH.

I did run it with the cowling and air-box off, after all this, just to see how the carbs were responding. (the wife was doing the driving, while I was doing the inspecting) I did happen to have Carb&Choke cleaner with me and tested each carb while running at wide open. When the carb on top was sprayed, the engine bogged just a bit (normal??). When the carb in the middle was sprayed, the engine bogged just a bit (normal??) When the carb on bottom was sprayed the RPMs climbed from 3200 to 5000 and the boat would run at speed like it should.

I know this is a long post, but I wanted to give as much info as possible.

What should I do??

Probably a stuck needle in bottom carb (some debris), not getting enough fuel. Remove and clean them with carb cleaner and compressed air, very easy to do. Only thing you need to buy is the carbs gaskets kit (cheap), not the carb repair kit (costly). As it's a 2005, you don't need a new inlet needle and all the other parts.

Only thing you had to check whem disassembling is the mixture screw adjustment (the ones on the front of the carbs under the air silencer, that pass throught a spring). With a screwdriver make a slight mark on the carb then screw it clockwise until lightly seated while counting the turns then take note for each three. Anyway if you forgot it, 1 1/4 turn out from seated should be a good starting point when you'll reassemble them.

Also be careful when running it in it's present condition, as it's possible that bottom cylinder isn't getting enough fuel to lubricate properly and you may encounter a slightly more costly kind of problem...

you wouldn't happen to know a part number for this would you? Unfortunately it is Sunday and all the boating repair centers (including BassPro) are closed. I will try a google search, if I find anything I will post it here.

Anyone else care to put in there thoughts and opinions, please do so.

Thanks.

OK Problem solved :cool::D:p

I had my son-inlaw help (he knows about carb repairs). It turns out that there was a lot of residual trash in the lower carb, and the float was being prevented from fully functioning.

We carefully removed the lower carb first (since the other 2 seem to be running properly) the gasket remained intact and in-place, so replacement was not necessary. The gasket was still in almost new condition.

after cleaning out what was accessible, without tearing the carb down, we reassembled it, and placed it back on the engine.

it cranked right up, after idleing for a few minutes, I put it in gear and did a couple of quick revs. the engine responded like it did the day I bought it. It maxed out at 5100 RPM and then idled back to norm.

So thanks for the input and help.

I learned 2 important things today
1.) how to clean a carb
2.) how to be more responsible when storing

My carb number is 3301-829402

Glad to know you solved your problem! Thanks for letting us know. Too many times people post problem but never give feedback...

If you want to tell me your engine serial (on the side of the clamp bracket), i'll let you know the parts numbers of a few cheap critical parts, as carbs gasket kit and impeller, each around 15$ or so...

Thoses are some cheap parts that were very handy to have when needed AND, anyway, you'll need them for sure if you own your engine a few years:

fuel pump diaphragm kit #21-857005A 1 18.50$
carb gasket set #1395-811223 1 5.90$ x3
impeller #47- 85089 10 19.81$

You could trust me, it's a cheap insurance. BTW it's fun to play on thoses beasts, and you'll learn a lot.
