Need help with 88 Johnson 2.5

Siezed up. Lower unit O.K. but needs new seals. Powerhead and pistons move O.K about twice then lock up. If I move the rotor a little they'll free up and repeat.

Hi jzwerk.<br />Sad to hear, it sounds serious. How did this happen. Did it size up running ? Or has this motor sat for a while. How do you know its not broken gears in l/u. Unfortunetely it could be a broken rod or smashed bearing, too. Can you give us more info.

I've dropped the lower unit and gears are O.K. I was given motor and told it had been running and just stopped. They tried restarting and the whole thing locked up. Boat hadn't been licensed since 01 so my guess is the motor was sitting in their garage for over a year. Jim
