I'm trying to get this prop off of a 1978 lower unit V6 crossflow. This is a high performance setup that i have never seen before. I dont know if the prop is ceased on to the shaft or the hub at the end of the prop is really a nut. I drilled two holes to try and unthread it but it would not budge. If anyone has seen this kind of setup I would love to know about it._DSC0001.jpg_DSC0007.jpg_DSC0002.jpg

I see you have the prop nut off. It's possible the prop is just stuck to the prop shaft. Looking at your first pic it looks like there's a lot of corrosion on your gear case.

You might check with some local prop shops in your area and see if they have a puller to remove it.

Re: Need help with this prop setup

Here's a couple of things I should have stated first: 1) it's a 78 lower unit off of a 235 evinrude, 2) it's a freshwater motor 3) it's not corrosion, it's the paint peeled off. You are looking at bare aluminum in places.

Does anyone have any kind of info on this prop? I did try and make my own puller. I used my gear puller and slid 1/4"flat stock behind The prop. I tapped 5/16 holes into the stock and inserted 5/16 all-thread and attached it to my puller. It bent the stock and didn't move the prop at all.

I take a BIG 3 jaw puller and remove the arms.
Then get 3 pieces of chain about 18" long.
Install the chains in place of the arms.
Adjust them as needed.
Get longer bolts and install the chains around the ears of the prop making a loop of the chain.
Snug the center bolt and you might have to strap or hose clamp the chains in place so they don't slip off the ears.
Once it's on and the chains tight crank down on it.
A propane torch on the exposed threads for a minute might help too.
I don't have any pics of the set up but can take some.
PM me if you need?

Ayuh,.... It's a solid hubbed Chopper prop, probably from Merc. by the looks of the part number,....

There's a distinct possibility that you'll have to destroy either the prop, or the shaft to get it off,...

That's Why it's Sooo important to grease the prop shaft every year,...

QUIT drilling. Lol sorry bout yelling. That's a Merc Chopper. Get a GOOD prop pulled and a can or two of PB Blaster. Put the puller on and really get down with tightening the pulling screw. Spray the crap out of it with the PB. Walk away. It may take a day or 2 but it will pop loose I did have to do this for a week on a saltwater motor one time before it popped loose. Each time you check it tighten up on the pulling screw and respray it.

Ayuh,... An Impact gun helps, 'n Wackin' the end of the puller screw sometimes is enough Shock to help break it free,...

At least I don't feel like the fool who put this prop onm!!!LOL!!I most assuredly tell you "IT WASN"T ME!!!!!" LOL! I just picked this up a couple of weeks ago(entire 235 motor ) from a friend. I have been soaking it in PB all day....still stuck. I haven't been doing any more drillin'!!! I will keep pressure on it and see what gives.....literally!!
