Do you think this may be one reason we STRONGLY recommend only FACTORY service manuals?

Check these links to see if yours is available

If your motor has an oil tank there should be two blue wires coming from the low oil switch in the bottom of the tank. These two wires should connect to a black box, the oil alarm module, which will have wires connecting to an oil pump rotation sensor, one of the ignition coils, and the motor wiring harness.

Should be a black wire to grd off the oil level switch and a tan/light blue wire connecting the level switch and head temp switch going forward to the warning horn.

What is your engine s/n and what control box are you using?

Is the warning horn going to be the low oil now? Or makes the warning horn sound?

Re: Need help with wireing!!

That s/n comes up as a model:

1075412ZD MERCURY 2002 75

Parts listing:

http://www.crowleymarine.com/mercury-outboard/3374.cfm

SErvice Manual P/N: 90-830234R04

http://1manual.com/Mercury manuals/Service Manual PDFs/TwoStroke/830234r3/cover.pdf

You must have Adobe Acrobat reader installed to use this manual. If you scroll down to the lower part of the opening page, you will see the various engine components in red. Click on the one you want and when the first page opens, click on the "Save As" icon at the top LH corner of the page and you can save it to your computer.

Look under Fuel System (Oil Injection) and it will show the wiring, tests and warning horn system for the low oil level. You will also see the Low Oil/Overheat Warning module which provides the two signals through tan and purple wires to the warning horn.

Great info. I have been looking for this also. I see that my motor, which is a 2001 75 ELPTO does not have the warning module. I traced the wiring all over inside the engine cowling, and no dice.

Then, I read this somewhere else in the forum that Mercury stopped putting the warning modules in this edition of engines sometime after 1997, when this manual was published. The low oil and overheat still have sensors, but there is just no module, that would allow you to get the self-test buzz, when you first start the engine.

Anyone know if there are current service manuals that have the latest configurations in them?

Thanks,

Dave

Hey,

There ya go. I guess I just did not scroll down far enough when I opened the .pdf files. I figured it out anyway, but it is nice to know that my complete wiring is detailed somewhere. I still have to test my warning buzzer to make sure it works though......wish they could have left the module and the self test capability in there.
