I have a 1976 evinrude 70 hp. I got boat and motor last year ran good last year and for begining of this summer. Last weekend went to take boat out and motor would not start pulled the plugs and the center spark plug had a milky liquid on it. Can anyone tell me if this is the head gasket and if so how hard to fix. thank you

Re: need help

Probably is the head gasket. Head gaskets are fairly simple to replace, just make sure to torque the bolts, and after running awhile check the torque again.

Re: need help

If not a head gasket it could be an exhaust side cover gasket and/or cover it self. Check the head gasket first.

Re: need help

I would expect to see some where around 115-125 compression. Maybe a good decarb will bring it up some.
Make sure and recheck it after you replace the head gasket.
