welcome aboard shotrie,
assume you mean get rid of oil pump and manually
mix the gas/oil yurself... sure can.
do a search on the subject as it's been discussed
several times. it's the way I would go myself.
that way I would always know it's gettin the exact
amount of oil it needs.
excess smoke can be from too much oil or you may
need a tune-up. try posting the year of the motor
in the future so we know what wer're dealin with.
good luck,
M.Y.

Re: need info

Thank you Mellow Yellow! The motor is a 1990 and the boat is a 1985. Let me ask you another question, my boat wont hold charge when I hook up the lights for night time fishing. What can I look for to fix the problem?

Re: need info

Do you mean the battery won't hold a charge while the motors running? That is, the motor is not charging the battery?

Scott.

It holds charge until I hook up my lights. How do you tell if it is charging? And what is sea foam?

Re: need info

A simple and quick way to see if the motor is charging the battery is to hook up a Volt meter to the battery, with the motor off. The voltage should be around 12V or 12.5V. Then start the motor, and see if the voltage returns to where it was at first, and then starts to increase. Sometimes you will see 14 to 14.5 volts. but on some motors with weaker charging systems it may increase fairly slowly, and only get up to 13 volts or a little less..

Also, you may need to rev it up a little to get back the juice lost while starting..
Voltage will also probably fluctuate with engine speed.

Scott..
