I have a older model VIP, 16 ft. I think it needs a new deck.
First of all, how do I know it needs a new deck?
Secondly, If it does, I would love it if someone could explain the process of putting in a new deck. I NEED the "for dummies" version of it so no nautical terms please. I don't know what the "cap" is that people talk about removing is either.

Please help! It would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to iBoats!
If you have soft spots in your deck then it prolly needs replaced. Question is, once the deck is removed the substuture underneath may have issues too! We will need more info to be able to properly assist you. How old is she? Is she an Inboard or Outboard. Have you had her since new, or did you buy her used? Pics really help. Best way is to open a Free Photobucket account, load your pic's to it, then hover over the pic, click on the IMG code, it'll say "Copied" then come back to iBoats and paste the code into your iBoats post. With the pics we can see what you see and diagnose the problem and lead you to the proper repair method. Your boat is made in two pieces. Top Half and Bottom half. Top half is called the "CaP" Bottom is called the "Hull" Held together by the "RubRail" Chrome piece that has the rubber piece in it that runs all around the outer edge of the boat.;)
