I was in a similar situation recently and went with a Lowrance Hook 7. No it doesn't do engine diagnostics, send text messages, or link up to the trolling motor, but it has a 7" screen, nice GPS and maps, and down imaging. Also has an SD card slot if you want to use a Navionics card. Got it from Academy for $299 and am very happy with it.

The antenna is not required in most installations as the echoMap CHIRP 93sv with transducer has a fast responding, high sensitivity 5Hz.
  • Trackback to review recorded sonar history including structure, transitions or fish targets, then pinpoint locations
  • Best will be High-resolution and minimum 4-inch color display
  • Advanced signal processing (asp) reduces need to manually adjust.

This useless paragraph brought to you by your friends in the marketing department....lol

What does the update rate have to do with whether or not an antenna would boost your signal to noise ratio significantly?

im not a fan of touchscreen on a boat.

Rough and big fingers don’t get along...lol

The only thing I don’t like about the unit after 2 years of use is the landscape presentation. Portrait gives better pixel to depth ratios
