I have 22ft webbcraft ski, with a 260 mercruiser. i like to pull tubs and skiers, the prop that is on it is a stainless 15 1/4 x 15, it has a great hole shot but no topspeed. i want more speed. have asked alot of questions and have determined i need a 20 to 23p for my rpm range, what would be the best prop to go with, and how much of a difference would the diameter make at that pitch?

i've asked a similar question just below yours.... you sure about the pitch you selected?.... for tubing and skiing I'd think 17-19 max and 21 for speed when not towing... what speed do you get with the current prop and what do your rpms do? I assume you have to back off to prevent over reving?
have you tried mercury's prop selector?

i do have to back off of it at top speed, its around 38mph at 4400 rpms in good conditions, i ve topped it out at 44 at 5800 but i dont like that, id like to stay around the 4500 range, and all the scales and guides ive looked at say 20 to 21 at that rpm range.

If you expect to tow well I don't think you want a 23" pitch.
You may have to comprimise unless you want to change props for towing.
A 4 blade may help your hole shot some and may help keep the rpm down a little.
The pitch change should help your speed but adding blades will blunt that some.
As suggested 17-19 for towing and 21 for speed.Keep in mind any prop change
is a educated gamble.And if you change brands and or material you add even more variables.

so i think i will go with a 19 or a 20 so i can still tow, but should i change the diameter or anything like that? also whats the difference between a cleaver prop and a regular prop?

Re: need prop advice

old prop pitch multiplied by old rpm divided by new prop pitch(subtract 100 for 4 blade application)
15X5800/23=3800new rpm -which would take a week to get on plane
20=4350-bolder line lugging
19=4600-good
4x18=4700- this would be all around best prop
17=5100-ok to pull or carry heavy loads
this is a rough math answer. same style prop
id look for a 4 blade 18pitch if it were mine. 4 blades jump on plane, can be on plane at lower speeds. at mid range more fuel efficient. pull any thing.

Junior, is right you are looking for a 19" pitch prop with the information you provided.
