I have an old Larson that I am replacing the floor and stringers on. the transom is good thankfully. The boat has stringers made of fibreglass with foam in the middle and a wooden cap. The wood is layed in flat and runs ten or so feet from the transom forward. The wood that was in there originally was 1"x 10" cedar of some variety. I can only find certain kinds of material up here whilke keeping the expense down. The choices I have so far are building the sringers out of built up treated plywood, 1" x 10" cedar which is actually only 3/4" thick, or 2x10 of varying varieties. I could also try to get some lumber milled down to the right spec but there go the dollars again. What would you do if you had to replace it?

Cut the cap off, dig out the wood, replace with douglas fir, then fill it up with epoxy and biax.

Why put water-sucking foam back in?
