Be aware that the online course is not recognized by many states (NJ and NY are two of them). So even if you pay the $15 to get your certificates, they will not be valid for getting your boating licence in NJ or NY. You must take the state approved courses (in person class) and get the appropriate certificate from the state police to get your boat license.

The judge that gave my friend the web site is a New York Judge. I know it's not accepted in NY, but this particular judge accepted it (and endorsed it). There is NO boating license required in NY. Anyone can drive a boat as long as they meet age requirements. The only people required to take the safety course are jet ski drivers or people boating under the minimum age in NY.
