Bought my first boat and motor recently and looking for some help with the motor. 1984 Merc 70hp 3cyl. motor. I was told motor hasn't run in yrs and I should tune it up. I prefer to take it to someone that knows what they are doing then take it on myself. I amk hesitant to bring it to a dealer because I have know idea if the engine runs and want to avoid spending big $. Does anyone reccommend a "backyard" mechanic in NJ that might be interested in giving it a once over?

Re: Need some Help

I know you said you do not want to take it on yourself but i can tell you if you do it will help you in the long run i have learned so much in the past 3 months wotking on my own. get yourself a manual like seloc it has tune up procedures and pics to help you along the way. i recommend doing it yourself save money. and learn a little about your motor so if something happens on the water you have a clue.
