I have a 72 9.8 in VERY good condition. I have a spark problem. First it would run then quit and refuse to fire. After it sat for a day it would at least turn over. I have new stators. Have checked the condenser and RR one with the same result, Rewired every thing. I don't really know what function the plastic plate has everything attaches to. I have ordered new insolators. This is not a fuel problem. Also triple checked the stop switch and bypassed it just to make sure..
It seems to sit for a day and will fire, then run 10-15 seconds and die and yes the plugs are wet when I pull them.

Doesn't sound like it's in very good condition.Check compression and visual check spark. That plastic thing is your switch box.Check it as well.Tests should be outlined in the manual. If it's not fuel...check it anyway...everything.

Re: Need some help

I ran the switchbox check according to CDI and everything checks out. New stators, they are good. Took off ground return off top coil and bottom coil fires great.
Everything points to the isolators. They should be here in a day or two. Will post results. Interesting note in the CDI book. DO NOT RUN THIS MOTOR WILL A FLUSH UNIT ATTACHED. Seems no back pressure on the exhaust from beingn underwater lets the motor unwind too long with the kill switch engaged and can hurt the rectifier.
