I have this 15ft flat bottom boat maker unknown.
Fiberglass with wood seats and wood transom.
What I need is some good ideas on how to either raise the transom or just the motor.
This boat is very steady in the water and has plenty of room. The 9.5 on the transom is sitting a little to low. The anticavation plate is about three inches to low and I need to raise it. Let me here any and all ideas.
Is it a short shaft or a long shaft engine? If its a long shaft, convert it to a short shaft. Otherwise you could glass in a piece of wood (sort of like an extension of the wood that is on there now) to raise the top of the transom in the middle 3 inches. It wouldn't be hard just some plywood, epoxy, and glass.

I agree, replace that bit of wood (looks like laminate flooring!) with a new bit of 3/4" ply, 3" taller, double thickness at the top so there's a lip that sits on top of the transom.
I'd also add a piece of ply, 3/8" or maybe 1/2" to the outside. Epoxy the whole lot to the transom and bolt right through with S/S or hot dip galvanized bolts, so the glass transom is rigidly sandwiched between the inner and outer ply.
That'll raise your motor and provide a really stiff motor mount.
If you have some to hand, or if your budget allows, use marine ply. If not use good quality exterior and give it a couple of coats of epoxy resin to seal it whichever you use.

bubbakat, I wouldn't make anything permanant incase your not happy with performance. My old 30 hp was low and after reading post I decided to raise motor to where c/p was even with bottom of boat. No differance in speed at all. What I did encounter was taking off at wot the prop would loose its bite and I would have to back off throttle and ease throttle. Then, at wot I could turn to port ok but starboard turns same thing, prop would lose its bite. Took my homemade extension off and nomore prop problems.
Before I took extension off I did try all 4 trim settings on the motor.
BTW, Iv'e Got that same 9.5 on a 10 ft. jonboat. You talk about something that will scream across the water. WOW.

Thanks guys for the ideas. I am going to fashion me a jack plate out of some alum. angel iron and try my idea of the performance and like-cajun said if I don't like it I will remove it. If it does work good I will raise the transom as suggested in the other posts.
You are right about one thing cajun those 9.5 will scream. I love the way this thing pushes that boat thru the water. With a new impeller and a new head gasket I have a grand total of $65 in this thing. It is hard starting ---- you have to pull the rope at least half way out :D :D
