Your U joints don't have grease fittings

He MAY have grease fittings. Mine did which is the model before the OP's drive but I know later ones came without.

The U joints have zirk fittings, placed at a 45 degree angle, too.... It's definite BS the new ones don't. I'm nearly 100% positive the u joints are fine, reasons posted earlier. There was no evidence of water intrusion in the bellows. So, the inner race of gimbal bearing turns very, very smoothly with a barely perceptible bump at one point only (I know, what was that)...

...so, given that: 1) a boat mechanic friend said the sound described in the 1st post sounds u joint related, 2) two service guys at the VP shop said it sounds trim pump related, and 3) the gimbal bearing feels like it is still good (I understand it may not be)...

...I plan on finishing the list of items stated in earlier post, taking the boat back out, and listening carefully to detect if the sound has changed at all since I just regreased the gimbal bearing. If it changed or is absent it's probably the gimbal bearing and I'll have to repull the drive.... If it's unchanged I'll have to start looking elsewhere for the cause (trim pump?)

Did you run the trim pump with the engine off and hear the same sound?

Hundreds of threads ive read. Ive got a 1996 Glastron sx195. 5.0 with SX drive. Ive been scared to death of doing my own maintenance. This thread inspired me. I am going to pull my SX drive, My only goals is replace both Bellows...Inspect ujoints and bearong...lubricate and align. Other then bellows kit what seals need replaced while doing this? Any? Ill buy allignment tool....both Bellows. Possibly gimble bearing. Does it get more in Depth then that?
