Needle valve bearing

Hello all,

I have a 1980 35hp E35ELCSM that I have rebuilt the carb on. Can't seem to adjust the cough away with the needle valve adjustment. The motor will cough and die. I can't get the motor to run long enough with the needle valve turned to the initial setting 1.5 turns from closed.

Did my model year incorporate the small plastic funnel looking needle valve bearing that came with the rebuild kit. Not easy to insert and I did not have one when I removed the needle valve, only a small red rubber washer that will fit up against the threads of the needle valve.

If my motor only uses the small red washer does it get reinserted by having it on the needle valve when I screw the valve in?

Any help appreciated because this is driving me nuts.

Thanks,

Rich

Re: Needle valve bearing

I don't see one on the parts diagram. Only a retainer that is at the outside of the carb where the S/S needle threads into. This retainer must seal that needle for it to work properly.

I only see a washer on the bottom plug. Not sure if that is a high speed orifice or what, but the parts diagram calls it a fibre washer. Keep in mind that some carb kits are used for many carbs so extra parts is not unusual. I usually put them on the needle before I insert them into the orifice when possible. It keeps them from being poked by the pointy end of the needle.

Re: Needle valve bearing

Thanks,

The diagrams does not show the little red grommet/washer made from rubber that was seated at bottom of idle needle valve?

I am positive this is where it came out of.
