I just purchased anew 2004 40 HP Yamaha and now my son tells me that he heas heard there are all kinds of problems with brken shafts, and blown powerheads.
I am really wondering if I have made a mistake in purchasing this one. Any help, advice or experiences would be beneficial and help assure me a little more.

Thanks

Properly maintained, they have been a super reliable motor.

fish camps in my area use a lot of these engines
i have repaired some 3 seasons old with 1500+ hours. the only problem i have come across that causes a problem with these engines is improperly sync'd carbs or dirty carbs. its been my expierience this condition causes the bottom cylinder to draw water, giving the mistaken impression of a faulty head gasket or a leaky sandwich plate. install a GOOD filter, follow the service guide to the letter and be careful with your fuel. these engines are very reliable.
