New acquisition

Yesterday I drove 300 miles round trip and then had to work last night to pick up the newest toy. It's a 1983 60hp 2cylinder Johnson. Today I got it on the boat and hooked up. Connected the muffs and primed some gas into it and turned it over. Popped off then quit, tried again and the same. After a few tries it finally caught and ran loud and smooth. Downside is it looks as though it's going to need a water pump.

This one is going to stay on the project Alumacraft to replace the damaged 70hp that it came with. This came with a decent 12.25X15 stainless prop so now I'm anxiously waiting to see how it will perform.

Hope to put it in the water this next week and I'll post results.

Re: New acquisition

Ive one of these, runs loud and smooth too and has trim and tilt!
The thing with the impeller on these is that some people put the impeller on that uses the half crescent key whereas the pin key seems to be the correct one-well it was for me.
The chief mechanic i brought it from sold it as it kept overheating, The wrong key and impeller was the reason, the impeller are exactly the same shape apart from key grove in the impeller.
It has a flat slot on the driveshaft so he thought it needed the half crescent which was wrong as the impeller with the pin type key is the correct one for it. It slides a little on the driveshaft but once in rotation it holds firms whereas the half crecesnt slips once rpms increase a bit and they often stop spinning at all- which happened to me in an outgoing tide channel
