I am a new boat owner and notice that my drive lube is getting low.... I have a Merccruiser 3.0 and the dealer gave me a bottle of gear lube, but was not clear as to whether or not that that is the same as drive lube. So my simple question is is drive lube and gear lube the same?

Thanks for helping a new boat owner out.

Just a guess, considering I was just in those shoes...

Its probably the drive/gear oil for the outdrive and lower unit. It has to be pumped in through the bottom. I bought a pump at BoaterWorld for like $16. Its easy to do and doesn't take much time.

One might wonder where the drive lube is going if it's getting low.

you might want to think about gojayo's question.. where is the lube going that is causing it to get low? or did you just open it and see that it looks low and you want to top it off? have you drained a bit of the lube to check for water?
