I bought a new ignition coil today for my 1980 Johnson 55, 2 cylinder. It is to replace a coil that looked as though the potting material had began to melt, even though the engine runs O.K.

The thing is, the new coil looks totally different to the old one. It is definately the right part for the engine, the parts man and I checked and double checked, and the new coil supercedes the old type. By looking in the parts book, my old ignition coils are the original ones from 1980!

What I need to know, is will it be alright to run my engine with one new type coil, and one old one? The remaining old coil is still good, it just looks odd with two different coils bolted onto my engine!

Thanks in advance.
Steve
