new battery

i just bought a new battery and wanna put two in the boat, i was wondering how i wire them? series? + to - to + to -? and hook the cables to one on each batt?

Someone correct if I'm wrong but, you need to wire them in parallel for 12 volts. Series would give you 24 volts. When you put 6 batteries in a radio, it's + to - = 9 volts.

Connecting 2 batteries in series (positive to neg) doubles the output voltage.<br /><br />Connecting 2 batteries in parallel (pos to pos) doubles the reserve capacity but the output voltage remains the same.

bd,<br /><br />what is your intended use of the batteries?<br /><br />if for starting or any other 12 volt use, then yes, join the positve to positive and negative to negative. + + - -<br /><br />if for trolling motor reqiring 24 volts then you would be negative of battery 1 to positive of battery 2 and positive of battery 1 to positive hookup and negative of battery 2 to negative hookup. + - + -
