Hi I just bought a used 14 foot tri hull with a non running 6 hp motor. I am having trouble finding part for it. If I can't get it running I would just buy a used one. I want to use it for fishing small lakes and the Ohio river. Ok now the question. The boat is rated for up to 35 hp. What size motor, long or short shaft would I need. And I don't want to spend more than $500. Of course I'm Looking at used motors. Thanks John

If the motor is a Evinrude or Johnson you should be able to find parts..
If your not in a hurry the 6 will get there from here.
Before investing in a motor you should be sure the boat is sound.
Especially the transom. If the floor has been replaced or is spongy the transom is suspect.
Look at the bottom, no bulges or uneven places.
Buying a motor look for a 35 You won't be sorry.
What would be your typical load?

It will haul about just over 500lbs max, the motor is a 6 horse Chrysler not getting fire to the points but that's another topic. Just looking at it everything seems sound.

It was said on another thread a while back, so I'll say it again. You never hear a boat owner say "I wish my boat had less power!" Should be plenty of options at your budget, just take your time!
