Re: New computer, need firewall(s) - UPDATE

I'm up and running with the new computer - sweet!!!!

P4 3.2gig, 200GB HD/1 GB ram, 19" LCD, XP pro, netcomm router (with firewalls) and ASDL BROADBAND - love it!

Problem is that now I am afflicted with the problem that is affecting most of the downunder members, can't get onto iboats through the ASDL connection, I am current using my dialup connection that will expire in a month.

So if this problem can't be resolved - see ya :( .

Aldo

Noel, was it you that resolved your problems through DNSstuff.com?

If so, what did you do?

not too sure what they are on about in that link, but I have no issues and went from a slow but free dial up service to broadband and did not have to change any dns settings and cannot see why I would have to either

Re: New computer, need firewall(s) - UPDATE

My work computer (the one I am on now) is dialup, up until yesterday so was my home computer. I've sold my business so this computer and the dialup connection will no longer belong to me after the 31st January.

Now home comp is ADSL, cannot get iboats. Every other site connects, but not iboats.

I connect the dialup modem and 'dial in' - no problems, iboats connects. Go back to ADSL - doesn't connect.

The broadband service I am using is iprimus.

Signed - desperate & surfless in Melbourne.

I would contact the fellas at iboats directly. They have some pretty smart guys there, maybe they can give you a tip or two, or perhaps a different way to gain access to the site.

Good link Aldo but it is nerd speak to me as well. Can you ask your question re 'PLAIN english' on that forum.

Peterf from NZ emailed me after the new year and he is still persona non grata as well. I posted a question for the Mods here, on his behalf, a while back and they either did not see it or they could, shamefully, care less.

Keep us informed.

"nerd speak" :D .

Whatever the opposite of nerd is, that's me. Believe me, I'd like to be able to fix this thing with my MIG or a BBH.

I'll start by asking a simple one - how do I 'ping' iboats?

I assume that 'pinging' an address (and getting a response) confirms that the address is correct and therfore the DNS is also correct - correct?
