i put a new mallory marine distributor on my chevy 454 inboard and now i have no oil pressure. otherwise, ignition was smooth for my shortest outing yet. oil buzzer went off before the trailer even left the ramp.

so, what did i miss. my pcm manual doesn't say anything about the relationship of the dist to the oil pump.

can i fix it without pulling the engine? if so, how?

thanks

I believe the oil pump is driven by the end of the distributor shaft.

Was the new distributor shaft the same length as the old one and did the end of it look the same?

If it is you may have broken the pin on the oil pump that the distributor shaft fits into.

Hopefully someone will be along that knows there stuff.

Yes the end of the distributor does drive the oil pump...

You need to line up the grove on the oil pump rod with the grove on the end of the distributor shaft so they meet (fit together) as the distributor turn when you drop it in. This can be done with a lone screw driver. Hope the oil pump rod and sleeve are still in place.
