ok its way off then.....no the shop did all the work, not sure how they set it, never gets in the v after shifting from neutral either way

Thanks for all your help, I will take it back to the shop tomorrow..

I checked this all out of the water, would it be different under a load in the water......the way it is out of the water im surprised it ran at all.....unless its different under a load

Sorry, I keep forgetting that shop did this. Too many of these similar threads going on at once. They all start sounding the same!

If this is doing all of this out of the water, it will never work in the water.

If you are going to do this yourself, you need to accept that the only way to get this thing shifting right is to follow certain steps methodically. Tweaking this or that won't cut it. You can get the tools from Midnight Wolf (he is a member here but I forgot his user name) . On his website are several important documents; the OMC manual reprints for doing the shift cable . There is also a service bulletin from OMC that I suggested he add because it nicely summarizes the whole procedure.

Do yourself a favor and buy metal tools instead of the plastic crap on ebay.

Thanks guys,

I have been reading up on the adjustment procedure and don't understand all of it, guess i will just keep taking it back till they get it right

just so that i can explain it to the shop correctly, should the interrupter arm be in the center v while in neutral and fwd/rvse or center v in neutral and on the backside/frontside of the V in fwd/rvse

It should always be in the V if you aren't moving the shift lever. It will only move during a shift. It may move slightly going into gear but enough to trigger the switch going out of gear(but only in the water)
